Note: Consult with a sales associate or fabricator to choose a Staron or Tempest color that is best suited for your particular project. Like most materials, dark colors, and particularly dark colors that have been finished to a high gloss will potentially show scratches or abrasion marks. Therefore, it’s best to keep in mind that a dark surface color and a high gloss finishes generally requires additional care and maintenance. However, if scratches occur over time, the surface can easily be resanded and refinished. Refinishing must be performed by a certified Fabricator/Installer and, typically, you will be charged at the standard hourly service rate.

Yes. Because Staron® Solid Surfaces are nonporous, germs and bacteria have nowhere to accumulate. In fact, Staron® Solid Surfaces are one of the few surfaces approved for food preparation areas in restaurants. Before preparing a meal, always make sure that the surface is clean. Do not allow other food to come into contact with a surface where raw meats have been placed until the surface is thoroughly sanitized, preferably with a weak bleach solution. After sanitizing, immediately rinse and clean the surface with water ‐ leaving food residue on the surface to air dry can result in a stubborn stain.
No. The acrylic resins used in Staron® Solid Surfaces are unaffected by the ultraviolet rays present in natural light, so its color will not fade. However, Staron® Solid Surfaces are not intended for outdoor use because of the potential for extreme weather conditions, pollutants and other contaminants.
Staron® Solid Surfaces are heat‐resistant and will remain stable and undamaged up to 212º F. However, high heat or flame can damage the surface; yet, in most cases, damage can be repaired. To protect the countertop surface, always use a heat pad or trivet. Or think of the stainless steel heat rails near a stove where hot pans can be placed without worry.
Solid surfaces are not intended to be used as a flooring material, though it has been used as stair treads. Even then, only colors with large particulate patterns are used to mask signs of wear.
We thought you’d never ask. If granite is not sealed regularly, it can become stained,andharbor bacteria, viruses and mold. Laminates may separate over time if exposed to moisture. Staron® Solid Surfaces are solid and homogenous, impenetrable to moisture. Laminates may also be damaged easily by nicks and stains, and cannot be repaired like Staron.
Tile has many seams where bacteria, viruses and mold can accumulate. Grout between tiles must be cleaned frequently and often cracks. But, Staron® Solid Surfaces have smooth, impenetrable seams, and are more impact‐resistant than tile.

The basic rule of thumb is to only use a mild abrasive (such as Soft Scrub®) with a blue or green Scotch‐Brite® pad if your Staron surface is installed in a matte finish. If the surface was installed in a high‐gloss finish, stick with an ammonia based glass cleaner or products like 409® ‐ DO NOT use a Scotch‐Brite® pad of any type on a high‐gloss finish.
Yes. Though there are some common fixture sizes, we highly recommend selecting the sink and faucet before your custom countertop is created by a fabricator.

Staron® Solid Surfaces are installed by licensed fabricators who have been specifically trained. Using a licensed fabricator ensures that your countertop or commercial‐use surface will be properly installed and backed by full warranty.
As a separate piece, Staron® Solid Surfaces makes a great cutting board. Ask your fabricator to leave a color‐matched piece of the Staron material left over from the installation. This piece can also be fashioned by the fabricator into a cutting board to protect your countertop from scratches or cuts (be sure rubber or silicon “feet” are added to the bottom of the Staron cutting board). Also, the spare piece will come‐in handy in the event of a repair for the countertop, if necessary in the future.
